RE: Class of '70 Makes a Difference

Hi Carla, Forrest, et al.

I like Carla's concept, but with respect to Forrest, something that would address education in Wake County, or Broughton specifically, seems like a good idea to me. I have been writing about the school board, etc., for more than a year now, and have recently noticed that there's a big discrepancy in the donations the different schools get. Some get tens of thousands, some almost nothing.

So, what about giving to Broughton, but with the purpose being tutoring or some kind of other assistance for kids who may be having difficulties academically or otherwise? I realize this is a vague idea, but I see the gap getting wider between have and have-not students, so maybe there's a way to reach out to the have-nots.

RE: Class of '70 Makes a Difference

Hello Carla,

Here are my thoughts. 1st, I'm so sorry I missed the reunion. Excuse...My sister's son got married in Nashville; so Thursday, we drove to Raleigh, picked up my parents (86 and 87, I'm lucky) and drove to Nashville Friday. Regretfully the best decision.

So, here is an idea. Recently I played in a golf fundraiser for MIRA, and was fortunate to have spent some time with the founder, Robert Baillie. Robert lives in Southern Pines and had a heart attack a couple of years ago; and due to complications during surgery is blind.

As the founder of MIRA, he is both motivational and committed. The foundation provides guide dogs to blind children. This service was not available unless you were at least 17 until MIRA was founded.

Website: www.mirausa.org

Email: mirafoundationusa@yahoo.com

Office: 910.944.7757

Cell: 910.603.5522

To my fellow classmates and Carla: Carla, thank you for the inspiration; and to all, thank you for the consideration. We can make a difference as we have for the last 40 years.

Class of '70 Makes a Difference

Hi Classmates!

What a super reunion! Here is the beginning of an idea. What about the Class of ‘70 really making a difference. If even 100 of us each gave $100 we would raise $10,000. Do you have ideas? (feed Haiti, fund cancer research, establish a need based scholarship) Do you know of a need close to home? Post your ideas here. It was great to see you all!
